A tipper body made of Hardox 500 Tuf is lighter and more durable due to its unique combination of hardness and toughness. Hardox 500 Tuf lets you design low-weight bodies with the wear-resistant qualities of much heavier structures. That's what Italian OEM Mantella did. Not only does it deliver high wear resistance – Hardox 500 Tuf is also tough enough to perform as a structural wear plate in heavy-duty tipper and truck bodies. This offers new opportunities for reducing or eliminating supporting structures, allowing Hardox 500 Tuf to take the load instead. A tipper body without reinforcing beams is stronger and lighter, and saves a lot of costly welding. A lower tare weight of the body means more payload, less fuel per transported ton and fewer trips on the road. Its high performance is also proven in cold climates and freezing conditions.

Thanks to the high wear resistance of Hardox 500 Tuf, buckets and other attachments last longer. This helps you avoid costly repairs, rebuilds and parts replacement.

Compared to traditional buckets with heavy wear packages, a bucket or dipper made in Hardox 500 Tuf is wear resistant, tough and gives a longer service life with fewer add-on wear parts. Achieve 30–50% longer service life over Hardox 450, and 85–100% longer service life compared to a 400 Brinell steel or other generic AR steel.

Hardox 500 Tuf for high productivity in mining

Hardox 500 Tuf adds new levels of productivity and cost-efficiency in mining. Handling blasted rock and ore in a mining tray is not only highly abrasive, it also needs a steel that can take heavy impact. Hardox 500 Tuf has a typical hardness of 500 HBW for high wear resistance. What makes Hardox 500 Tuf special is it combines high hardness with high toughness, with guaranteed narrow Brinell hardness range of 475-505 HBW. The wear plate has a guaranteed impact energy of 27 J at -20°C (20 ft-lb at -4°F) and a typical value of 45 J at -40°C (33 ft-lb at -40°F), making it the optimal choice for mining in cold and freezing conditions. Longer service life for all kinds of abrasive materials

With Hardox® WearCalc software from SSAB, you can calculate and determine the increase in service life of equipment made in Hardox 500 Tuf compared with generic AR steel with lower hardness values. A calculation based on sliding wear with granite shows a:

  • 30-50% longer service life than a 450 HBW material, and
  • 85-100% longer service life than a 400 HBW material, the hardness value of many generic AR steels with lower hardness values.

 

Similar calculations can also be performed for other abrasive materials, such as coal, iron ore, limestone, sand, glass and household waste containing metal.
